Mexico's Education Ministry Replaces Head of Educational Materials

The Ministry of Public Education (SEP) has removed Marx Arriaga Navarro from his position as head of the General Directorate of Educational Materials. Arriaga, who has not yet received official notification, stated that he will continue to perform his duties. He claims to have received orders to remove references to the 1968 Tlatelolco massacre, the 1995 Aguas Blancas massacre, and the disappearance of the 43 Ayotzinapa students from the textbooks. At the same time, he stated there were no instructions to include information about prominent women in history. Nadia López García has been appointed as the new director, tasked with reinforcing a humanistic and intercultural editorial policy.
